Human Resources Director
The Human Resources Director leads and administers Door County’s organization-wide human resources functions, providing leadership in employee relations, classification and compensation, recruitment, labor relations, policy administration, benefits, compliance, and workforce planning. Reporting to the County Administrator, the Director exercises independent judgment and delegated authority in routine personnel matters while advising County leadership on complex, high-risk, and financially significant issues.
Expected Hiring Range: $125,000–$140,000 (DOQ)
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Public Administration, Business Administration or a related field. A master’s degree is preferred.
- At least five years of progressively responsible human resources experience, including two years of supervisory or leadership experience in employee relations, classification and compensation, and policy administration.
- Experience in labor relations, including contract administration and grievance handling.
- Demonstrated experience applying employment laws and personnel policies in a complex organization.
- Professional HR certification, such as SPHR, PHR, SHRM-SCP or SHRM-CP, or ability to obtain certification within one year of hire.
- Public-sector human resources experience, preferably in county government, is strongly desired.
- Valid Wisconsin Driver’s License.
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
